UNT picks up commitment from Lake Travis OL

Hunter Siddons, an offensive lineman from Lake Travis confirmed late yesterday afternoon that he has committed to UNT.

Siddons, 6-5, 293, was a second-team All-District 25-4A selection last year.

UNT projects Siddons as a right tackle.

He was recruited by UNT cornerbacks coach Justin Gaines.

UNT was the first school to offer, but Baylor and UTSA had shown interest.

Siddons said he was excited about the direction of UNT’s program under Dan McCarney. UNT opened its new stadium last season and is headed to Conference USA in 2013, which were both factors in Siddon’s decision.

Lake Travis coach Hank Carter said that Siddons is a late-bloomer who was overlooked for two reasons — he didn’t start until his junior year and he missed spring practice this year due to a shoulder injury.

“North Texas was pretty smart to go after him,” Carter said. “If he had been able to work out in the spring, he would have 15-20 offers right now.”

Check back for more later and be sure to pick up a copy of tomorrow’s paper for the full story on Siddons.
