I swapped messages with Tony Nunn for a story I will have in tomorrow’s paper.
For now, here’s a little bit of the information I picked up:
UNT’s coaches contacted Nunn not too long after Tony Benford took over the program. He was recruited as a power forward/center.
The coaching staff at UNT was the main reason Nunn decided to commit.
He was also offered by East Carolina, Cincinnati, Charlotte and Jacksonville.
Nunn is the second player UNT has landed for its next recruiting class.
UNT has a combo forward in Anthony Norris already committed for the Class of 2013 and just brought in Keith Coleman, a 6-9 power forward/center in the Class of 2012.
This is just a guess on my part, but I have a feeling that UNT wants to pair Nunn and Coleman in the post. Coleman is supposed to be a great defensive player. Nunn might provide a little more punch offensively.
No matter how Benford uses them, those two players will make UNT tough to deal with in terms of physical size and strength in the post for years to come.
Be sure to pick up a copy of tomorrow’s paper for more.
