Tulsa head coach Bill Blankenship sees a lot of similarities when it comes to the Golden Hurricane and the Mean Green when it comes to their football programs.
Tulsa upgraded its facilities and saw the investment pay dividends quickly.
Blankenship foresees a similar payoff in the future for UNT, which opened Apogee Stadium last season.
He also made an interesting point in that UNT’s growing pains might come from getting used to the C-USA once the school joins the league next year. Blankenship said there is a lot of value in knowing not only opponents from playing them every year, but also from knowing the drill when it comes to travel, the venues games are played in and what the crowds are like.
He also mentioned that he saw UNT as a no-brainer when it came time for C-USA to expand. He saw UNT as a perfect fit from a geographic standpoint and also thought the school was a good addition from a cultural standpoint.
