Big night for Dunbar coming up

I haven’t gotten around to putting anything on the blog about the plight of Lance Dunbar with the Cowboys over the last few weeks.

We are finishing off our annual football magazine, which comes out Thursday, by the way. (It’s going to be 86 pages crammed full of nothing but UNT and area high school stuff).

I don’t know of any better way to spent 50 cents, so be sure to pick it up.

And now back to the point.

Dunbar is supposed to get his chance to shine tonight. And that is what he had better do because his NFL future could be on the line. UNT’s all-time leading rusher has been on the shelf with an injury throughout much of the preseason.

I thought Dunbar might be the darling of camp. Instead, we have heard about Cole Beasley of SMU non-stop, which is usually the way UNT’s luck goes.

Dunbar has a chance to change that tonight.

It will also be a big night for Jamize Olawale, another former UNT player competing for a roster spot at running back. Olawale is actually the UNT grad who has gotten the most ink so far.

I never would have guessed that Olawale would have a chance to make the team, but he has played well. He could end up the Cowboys roster or the practice squad.

It would be great publicity for UNT if both can hang around in some capacity.
