Football recruiting tidbit, other Friday thoughts, Get Your Rear on the Record update

There is nothing sports fans love more than lists and rankings. I came across one of particular interest this morning. Scout put out a list of the toughest places to play in college football.

This is not a huge shock, but Tiger Stadium (Death Valley) checked in at No. 1. UNT will be there in a matter of days to take on LSU.

I always love covering games there. The atmosphere is terrific.

It will be a tough game for UNT, but playing there is something the staff’s coaches sell in recruiting. Guys want to go play on the big stages in front of 100,000.

Now, if UNT can just sneak out of town with some memories, a bit of confidence and everyone still upright and healthy, the Mean Green will be in business.

UNT wants to pull that big upset against the Tigers. That’s the right attitude to have, but either way, UNT will come out with a huge check.

On the recruiting front, Tampa linebacker Isaac Tanner committed to Western Kentucky over UNT, several other Sun Belt schools and Ohio I mention it only because there was a feeling that after UNT announced that it is headed to C-USA that it would never see another player it wanted commit to another Sun Belt school.

I just don’t think it’s that simple. UNT has to start posting winning seasons and getting to bowl games to totally turn the tide and start bringing in better classes.

And a few more people sent in guesses for the “Get Your Rear on the Record” contest.

UNT fans are very optimistic this year. Only 15 people out of more than 50 are picking UNT to finish under .500.
