There were a couple of interesting tidbits to come up on the Sun Belt Conference front this afternoon, not all of them directly UNT related.
The most interesting of the bunch was that Arkansas State appears to have gotten a whole lot better today when JUCO offensive lineman Will Latu signed with the Red Wolves
The former College of the Canyons standout was the No. 7 rated JUCO prospect in the country, according to Rivals.com
Latu signed with Oklahoma out of junior college and was expected to compete for a starting job.
Transfers are a hit-and-miss proposition, but Latu could end up giving an ASU team that won the Sun Belt title last season a huge boost.
And in other news, CBS has come out with its bowl projections.
The webiste has Arkansas State playing Louisiana Tech in the New Orleans Bowl, Louisiana-Lafayette playing Wake Forest in the Independence Bowl, Florida International playing Ohio in the GoDaddy.com Bowl and one pick out of left field. CBS has Louisiana-Monroe playing Northern Illinois in the Little Caesars Bowl.
ULM was 4-8 last season and lost three close games. The Warhawks have 13 starters back, a home game against Baylor and a winnable nonconference game against Tulane on the schedule.
You never know. It could happen.
I would just hide all the sharp objects from UNT fans if ULM goes bowling and the Mean Green stays home this year.
