LSU loses the Honey Badger

UNT’s matchup with LSU changed a little bit today — for the better from the Mean Green’s perspective.

Cornerback Tyrann Mathieu has been booted from the team

Mathieu, better known as the Honey Badger, was a Heisman finalist last year.

So what does it mean for UNT?

Well, Derek Thompson’s night in Death Valley might have just gotten a little easier. Mathieu was an All-American. He scored two touchdowns on punt returns and two on fumble returns. He intercepted two passes, recovered four fumbles and caused six fumbles last season.

LSU will miss him for sure.

Let’s just not get carried away. UNT will still be a huge underdog. LSU is deep and has a ton of talent.

These days, UNT officials like to talk about shocking the world and pulling that big upset.

UNT will still get that chance — and it will have a better chance — now that it won’t be badgered (Honey Badgered) in its season opener.
