Here is some video I shot with Marcus Trice after practice on Monday.
There were a few interesting tidbits to come out of Dan McCarney’s press conference today. The biggest zinger was that UNT will not open on the road next year. UNT has not opened at home since 2001, when TCU came to down. That’s 11 years for those of you scoring at home.
McCarney reiterated that you can’t build a program that way.
There was also some definitive news on a few players on the injury front.
Offensive lineman Boone Feldt and defensive ends Dutton Watson and Brad Horton are headed for redshirt years. Watson was injured in fall practice, while Feldt and Horton had pre-existing issues that required surgery.
UNT hopes to get tight end Daniel Prior, who we already know was out for the year, back in practice in October.
It still looks like cornerback Freddie Warner could be ready to go in October.
This is just my guess, but I think whether or not he plays will depend on when he is ready in October and where UNT is at record-wise at that point.
I stand by my thought that the Troy game is essentially the whole season for the Mean Green. If UNT wins that game to get to 2-2 heading to Florida Atlantic and Houston, UNT could end up making a run at six wins. If UNT loses that game, I can’t imagine the staff thinking long and hard about redshirting Warner.
