Jamize Olawale is having a pretty remarkable run in Cowboys camp. I’ve mentioned it a couple of times, but it’s worth talking about again after he posted 30 rushing yards and a touchdown last night.
Lance Dunbar is still out with an injury.
Go figure. At this point, it looks like Olawale will at least make the practice squad.
Olawale came to UNT from El Camino JC in California and had a pretty nondescript career at UNT. He caught two passes last year, but showed a lot of versatility while playing wide receiver and tight end in his time at UNT.
He’s the darling of camp, along with wide receiver Cole Beasley.
Dunbar needs to play in the Cowboys next preseason game, but I could see a scenario where both at least make the practice squad.
Go figure.
And in a side note, the Morning News released its latest Area Top 100 on Sunday.
UNT is in the hunt for several of the area’s top prospects and has one player who has committed in the top 100 in Keller offensive lineman Cody Nelson. He checks in at No. 95.
UNT had two players on the list, including Guyer defensive back John Schilleci, who was at No. 100.
The Morning News updates its list throughout the fall, though, and Schilleci fell off in the latest edition when a few other players were added who have committed to major conference schools, including Arlington Grace Prep wide receiver Myles Norwood (Purdue), Irving offensive lineman Jaxon Silinas (Oklahoma State), Jesuit defensive lineman J.D. Waggoner (Iowa State), Fort Worth Southwest athlete Wesley Harris (Baylor) and Dallas Christian athlete Justin Nelson (Texas Tech).
We will see if Nelson holds that spot down the rest of the way.
