I will have a video of Dan McCarney to post later, but until then here are a couple of quick notes from practice.
I talked to a couple of coaches, and while McCarney said that nothing is finalized yet, it is looking more and more like Zac Whitfield and Hilbert Jackson will be UNT’s starting cornerbacks. Devante Davis and a few other guys will play.
It’s been a pretty remarkable off-season for Whitfield, who has gone from competing for the starting running back job to being almost certain to start at cornerback in a matter of weeks, days when it comes to actual practice time. Remember, UNT didn’t move him to corner until after spring practice.
Marcus Trice and Laramie Lee are still holding down the safety spots, but David Busby is also pushing for playing time. He returned an interception 67 yards for a touchdown today.
McCarney said that as of right now all three running backs will play at LSU. Brandin Byrd and Jeremy Brown both had 70-yard touchdown runs today. My guess is still that Antoinne Jimmerson starts.
Defensive end Daryl Mason didn’t practice today due to that knee injury he has been battling.
And in a side note, Matthew Postins, who used to work here at the DRC, was at practice working on a couple of stories for the Tyler paper. McCarney mentioned that Kansas Wesleyan transfer Carl Cardwell would be on the travel roster and playing if he did not have to sit out this year.
