Quick Sun Belt call notes

Ok, it’s officially football season.

The Sun Belt Conference had the first of its weekly Monday morning conference calls.

The highlights:

Dan McCarney said that UNT officials are monitoring the weather situation in Baton Rouge. There isn’t a whole lot UNT can do other than wait and see what will happen.

Karl Benson said that when it comes to nonconference games, it’s the schools that have control over what takes place when the weather is a problem.

Florida Atlantic and Florida International are already dealing with weather issues when it comes to their practice schedules.

Scheduling was also a topic today. Some Sun Belt teams are opening up against national powers (UNT vs. LSU, Arkansas State vs. Oregon) while others are opening up against FCS schools. I bring it up because McCarney said no one at UNT is happy with having only five home games this year and that school officials are all on the same page when it comes to making sure it doesn’t happen again. He mentioned that a schedule with five home games isn’t coming at an ideal time with UNT trying to build its home attendance.

Several coaches addressed their approaches when it comes to facing different levels of opponents. They were all following the party line that they don’t prepare any differently no matter who they are playing.
