I have had my nose to the grindstone, working on our football magazine the last few days and have not gotten to the blog today until now.
UNT is working out twice today. The players should be available this evening. There will be something interesting to come out of practice. There always is. But until then, I have mentioned that Dan McCarney has said often that Derek Thompson is his starting quarterback.
He said recently that the line of succession beyond DT is still to be determined.
Andrew McNulty became something of a whipping boy last year when he was thrown into the fire as a true freshman over a more experienced Brent Osborn when Thompson went down with an injury. UNT wasn’t going to win that game any way, but it was an interesting pick.
McNulty struggled at times against Tulsa. Osborn barely got on the field and did well when he was out there.
I thought Osborn had claimed the backup job in the fall, but it looks like it is still up for grabs again.
