I heard through the grapevine that an official announcement of UNT adding a basketball practice facility is imminent.
I’m talking a matter of hours.
I have written about it multiple times over the last few months.
UNT has a perfect spot for it over at the old Liberty Christian campus, which the school purchased and converted into a number of athletic facilities. The Mean Green Volleyball Center is there, as is the soccer team’s field and Lovelace Stadium, where UNT’s softball team plays.
A basketball practice facility makes a lot of sense for UNT due to the fact that the Super Pit is owned by the university. The court is up for a large chunk of the year, leaving both the men’s and women’s teams homeless.
There are several courts around campus, but none under the control of the athletic department.
It’s kind of odd to see UNT’s men’s basketball team that is a source of pride for the school chased off the court for freshman PE. Don’t laugh. I’ve seen it happen.
I mentioned this before, but if you are UNT, you have to jump on the opportunities presented by having a team on top like the Mean Green does at the moment. Tony Mitchell only comes around once in a lifetime for just about any program other than Duke.
UNT appears to be taking advantage of its chance.
