An interesting converstation about McCarney’s impact

One of the interesting aspects of traveling around following an FBS team is that you never know who you are going to run into.

I was waiting for my plane today with a whole lot of LSU fans and former LSU men’s basketball coach Trent Johnson (seriously, he was the last person to jump on) when I ran into a UNT professor.

We got to talking and she mentioned what a difference she has seen in the dedication of UNT’s players to their studies since Dan McCarney took over. She said that UNT’s players are focusing in like they never have before and are seeing the results. She said they will be better prepared for life because of it.

That has nothing to do with today’s game, but it is a telling take on the direction from someone who would know. She rattled off the names of a half a dozen or so UNT players who are in her classes.

There is no real reason to mention it now, but I wanted to get to it while I was thinking about it.
