Before North Texas ever started down the road with this tough nonconference schedule, one big concern stood out.
Will anyone be left standing by the time the games matter?
You have to wonder at this point.
For those of you scoring at home, defensive end Brandon McCoy was out last week and might still be out this week with an undisclosed injury, it looks like Chad Polk will be out for some time with a broken ankle and now this:
jeremy phillips @jphilican45
Surgery went good now I have to recover for next week!
Yep, Jeremy Phillips tweeted that he had surgery and is out for this week’s game against Kansas State.
That’s three key players.
And don’t forget that defensive tackle Tevinn Cantly was hobbling early in the season as well, although it looks like he will be OK going forward.
Injuries happen. They just seem to happen a whole lot more often for a team like UNT when it plays the LSUs and Kansas States of the world.
UNT could use a break before what amounts to the preseason (two games UNT appears to have no shot at in KSU and LSU and one it was going to win against Texas Southern) is over.
I have said all along that the season could very well come down to the Troy game to open Sun Belt play, although Houston’s struggles have made me rethink that position a little.
UNT really needs to be as healthy as possible heading into that game.
It’s just hard to imagine this team getting any healthier after playing a team like Kansas State.
