Fridayt night notes (hoops reunion, nice result for soccer, et cetera)

I was hoping to hang on to this until tomorrow’s paper, but since word is out, yes, UNT is having a hoops reunion, get together, shindig on Saturday.

Tony Benford has been pounding the pavement, talking to former players. Several dozen are expected to be in town tomorrow for an event. Former players will be able to see individual workouts in the morning, go to a function around lunch and tailgate before the football game.

In a side note, I can’t remember the last time there was this much optimism about the football program following a blowout loss. People fully expect Dan McCarney to work some magic the rest of the year. After he won five games with what he inherited last year, I wouldn’t put it past him.

On the Olympic sports front, John Hedlund and the UNT soccer team are still unbeaten on the year after hanging on for a scoreless tie against Baylor. In soccer terms, that is what they call a good result. Baylor was on the fringe of the Top 25.

UNT is darn near impossible to beat at home.

And finally, the UNT volleyball team lost a squeaker to Eastern Michigan in five games.
