When a team is losing, it’s only natural to think a whole lot about why, about what’s going wrong, about how to fix it.
The problem is when that is the focus, it can become easy to overlook some of the good things that are happening.
I bring it up because UNT does have some good things going early in the season, despite being 1-3 on the year.
At the top of my list?
The way this team is playing defensively. UNT lost to Troy 14-7 last week. Make no mistake, Troy’s a pretty good offensive team. Has been for years.
Corey Robinson is the real deal. So is Shawn Southward. And Eric Thomas.
UNT gave up a couple of touchdown passes. That was it.
And remember, this team has some good young players. Derek Akunne comes to mind. Freddie Warner is this team’s best defensive back and hasn’t played a down this year yet. He could be back soon, but not this week after having a setback in his recovery from ACL reconstruction.
Some of the older guys on this team’s defense will still be around after this year as well, including Marcus Trice and Zach Orr.
It’s just something to think about.
I’m not saying the sky is not falling in terms of this year. It might be. UNT is in a huge hole. But there are some good things going on in terms of this team’s defense and its future.
