Quick press conference notes

There were no huge surprises at Dan McCarney’s press conference today. Here are a few quick highlights:

– Defensive tackle Ryan Boutwell will be back this week after missing UNT’s season-opener with a torn pectoral muscle.

– Brandon McCoy and Tevinn Cantly are day-to-day with injuries. I happened to see McCoy walking to his car with a huge bag of ice on his knee. I would not expect him to play this week, especially since UNT is playing Texas Southern. UNT really needs McCoy to be healthy when things get serious in the fourth week of the season against Troy.

– Joe Greene will be an honorary captain this week

– UNT is putting a lot of emphasis on getting people out to the game this weekend.

– McCarney said he has a lot of respect for TSU. He said that team has several FBS caliber players.

– McCarney was not happy with the way UNT lost the turnover battle 2-1 to LSU after finishing among the nation’s leaders in turnover margin last year.

– UNT also saw a lot of room for improvement in terms of its running backs and receivers other than Brelan Chancellor. McCarney said the depth chart is fluid at this point. Someone else could jump into a starting role with a good week of practice.
