Amazing factoids heading into UNT-Houston

Here are a few fun quick-hitters about the UNT-Houston game this weekend.

– UNT has not beaten a Texas FBS opponent since 2006, when the Mean Green beat SMU at home 24-6. UNT has lost at SMU, lost at Rice in the 77-20 debacle, lost at home to Rice and lost at home to Houston since. Texas Southern is an FCS school.

– You will hear a lot this week that UNT hasn’t beaten Houston since 1975. That’s true, but UNT has also only played Houston three times since then, including dropping the first game at Apogee Stadium last season.

– I keep bringing this up after every game UNT wins, but the Mean Green is still looking to post back-to-back wins for the first time since 2004. UNT is 0-19 after a win since.

– This will be UNT’s first visit to Houston since that 77-20 loss to Rice. There are some older guys on the team who were on the roster then. Coleman Feeley played in that game. Jeremy Phillips, Tevinn Cantly and Aaron Fortenberry were all redshirt freshmen that year. It’s an important opportunity for UNT to make an impression in an area with a lot of top high school recruits.
