DISCLAIMER — I did not make the trip to Creighton and didn’t have a chance to listen to the game or even follow along.
I was chatting it up with Donna Capps in Mesquite covering the Argyle girls volleyball team in the regional volleyball tournament.
But it’s pretty obvious what happened to UNT tonight in a 71-51 loss to No. 16 Creighton. Tony Mitchell showed up. Everyone else? No so much.
Mitchell scored 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds, blocked two shots, posted two steals and turned the ball over just once.
UNT didn’t have another player reach double figures. Chris Jones was in foul trouble, Jordan Williams missed all five of his 3-point attempts and Alzee Williams didn’t shoot it well.
UNT is going to have a tough time when the Williams (Jordan and Alzee) go a combined 7-for-28.
It’s going to be even tougher if Jones goes scoreless like he did tonight.
It’s way too early to panic. UNT has a good team. It just might take a while for UNT to get going.
