UNT gets up off the floor

Disclaimer — I didn’t travel to tonight’s UNT-Lamar game. Here are some thoughts on the Mean Green’s 74-59 win any way.

The news of the night to me was the return of UNT’s guards. Alzee Williams finished with 17 points and Chris Jones added 15 for UNT.

Tony Mitchell also had a good night with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

UNT’s backcourt players had struggled at times in a couple of losses to open the season outside of Jordan Williams going off for 26 the other night.

Mitchell is going to attract a heck of a lot of attention all year. UNT needs its backcourt guys to complement him if it is going to get to where it wants to go.

Williams and Jones did just that.

Keith Coleman also put together a more complete performance, pulling down seven rebounds in 19 minutes.

I wondered earlier today if UNT was getting away from what its players do best. No way I can say until I see UNT play again, but UNT’s guards did shoot the ball a whole lot better today. That’s a really good sign after a slow start to the season.
