One of UNT’s more intriguing targets still out there is headed out for his second official visit since spending a weekend in Denton.
Charles Walker, a defensive tackle from South Garland, visited UNT earlier this year and then took a trip to Houston.
He will be at New Mexico this weekend, South Garland head coach Mark Cox confirmed this morning.
Walker is one of the more interesting stories of the recruiting season thus far. Walker is a high-end talent who didn’t post a qualifying test score until late.
UNT was in on Walker from the beginning. Cox said Walker has developed a really good relationship with UNT’s staff, including offensive line coach Mike Simmonds.
Now that Walker has qualified, a lot of other schools are showing interest. Oklahoma has been involved for a while now and is still actively recruiting Walker. The Sooners have yet to offer.
UNT appears to have a good shot at landing Walker if OU does not offer.
The problem will be this could be a race to the wire. Cox said that Walker plans on taking all of his visits. He has five and will have taken three after this weekend — UNT, Houston and New Mexico.
It appears as if word is spreading that Walker is out there and more than a few teams are jumping into the race.
UNT has a head start. The question could be if UNT can hang on down the stretch.
