I made a few additional calls this morning and picked up some information on Charles Walker. He was the one player who came in on an official visit this weekend I had not mentioned earlier in the week.
The South Garland senior was the Defensive MVP of District 11-5A this season, when he played nose tackle.
Walker projects as a tackle on the college level. At 6-4, 285, he already has good size for a defensive lineman on the college level.
The problem Walker ran into — and this makes him a perfect UNT story/target — is that he had not posted a test score that would make him eligible as a freshman. Other schools filled up or backed off while Walker was trying to get his grades/scores in order.
Walker took his standardized test a second time and just recently found out he posted the score he needed.
“He’s a big kid with a high motor, South Garland defensive coordinator Clint Clayton said. “Some schools were waiting on a test score. It’s about to pick up since he got that score.”
The question now is whether Walker will wait to see if anyone else comes in other than UNT and Texas State.
It sounded like things went well for Walker at UNT.
I have a call in to Walker.
We will see if he wants to talk sometime later today, which is something of a hit-and-miss proposition.
I will post what I get from Walker — if I get anything.
