Sunday night recruiting notes Part II

I mentioned earlier in the night that I was hoping to get in touch with a couple of players who committed to UNT this weekend.

I did end up talking with Shawn McKinney, the center who played for Trinity Valley JC last year.

McKinney is a mid-term transfer who was offered by Central Arkansas, Grambling, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Jackson State and Southeastern State.

I will have more on him in Tuesday’s paper, but my original take turned out to be pretty accurate. UNT is high on Boone Feldt, but don’t think he’s ready yet. UNT was recruiting McKinney’s teammate who picked Oklahoma State and spotted McKinnney in the process. UNT’s coaches told McKinney he will compete for the center job and likely hold down that spot next season.

McKinney visited with his teammate, defensive end Kewon Alfred. McKinney said Alfred really enjoyed his visit to UNT, but that he wants to take at least one more visit before deciding where to continue his career.

I left Alfred a message, but have yet to hear back.
