UNT-MTSU running blog

Update 3:56 — UNT is down 67-49 late in the second half. UNT has shot the ball a lot better offensively, but has not been able to keep up with MTSU, which is shooting 50 percent from the floor. Jordan Williams has 15 for UNT.

Update 6:38 — We have just had three timeouts in the span of eight seconds. Don’t know when the last time I saw that was. Anyway, UNT is down 61-45 late in the second half. Jordan Williams has 15 points for UNT and has scored the Mean Green’s last five points.

Update 6:46 — UNT is down 61-45 and its getting late in the second half. UNT is on a 5-0 run.

Update 10:27 — UNT is down 54-38 midway through the second half. Fun factoid. UNT’s 18.5 percent shooting in the first half was the lowest total for a half against MTSU since Denver shot 18.2 percent on Feb. 1, 2007. Tony Mitchell and Jordan Williams both have 10 for UNT.

Update 14:07 — MTSU is up 46-38 at the first media timeout of the second half. UNT went on a 12-0 run around halftime. UNT got within 39-31 and 41-34. MTSU has come up with a big shot each time. Raymond Cintron, who might be the best shooter in the league from 3, dropped one in from behind the arc. Tony Mitchell has 10 points for UNT.

Update 15:47 — MTSU is up 44-34 early in the second half. UNT was within 37-31.

Update 19:02 — Jacob Holmen just banked in a 3 from the wing. UNT has scored the first five points of the second half to pull to within 27-29. Tony Mitchell finally hit from the floor just before that.

Halftime — MTSU is up 37-24 at halftime here in Murfreesboro. UNT was down 18, but scored the last five points of the first half. Clarke Overlander hit a 3 right before the halftime buzzer to get UNT a little closer. Jordan Williams has 10 for UNT, which went 5-for-27 from the floor in the first half. Tony Mitchell missed all six of the shots he took in the first half.

Update :43 — MTSU is up 37-21 late in the first half. Jordan Williams has eight for UNT.

Update 3:12 — MTSU has pushed its lead to 32-17 late in the first half. Jordan Williams has eight for UNT and is the only guy who is keeping the Mean Green remotely close. UNT is 3-for-22 from the floor. UNT has missed all six of its 3-point attempts.

Update 5:12 — UNT pulled to within 11, but MTSU has responded and gone back up 29-14. Jordan Williams has five for UNT.

Update 7:57 — MTSU has scored six straight since Jordan Williams scored. UNT 9:01 without a field goal and started 1-for-16 from the floor. PJ Hardwick just missed the front end of a one-and=one opportunity. Jordan Williams has five of UNT’s six points.

Update 8:26 — UNT is down 19-6 and went 9:01 between field goals. Jordan Williams broke the drought. Williams has five points.

Update 11:43 — UNT is down 11-3 at the second media timeout of the first half. I have been told I’m wrong about UNT in the halfcourt, but UNT is 1-for-13 from the floor. Jordan Williams has hit UNT’s only shot from the floor so far. UNT is lucky MTSU has not shot it well. The Blue Raiders would be up 15 is they weren’t 3-for-11.

Update 15:58 — We have hit the first media timeout with MTSU up 7-3. UNT is 1-for-9 from the floor. Jordan Williams has UNT’s only field goal so far.

UNT is getting ready for a New Year’s Eve game against MTSU. Brutal time to play, but its a move that gets UNT on TV.

Programs like UNT will give anything to get on TV.

I posed this on the blog earlier, but UNT will be without Chris Jones tonight, which is not going to help matters in a game against an MTSU team that is 10-3 and has beaten Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.

Alzee Williams will start at the point.

UNT will need a big game from everyone it has available. I will update the blog as we go along.
