Friday afternoon basketball notes

Getting to this a little late today, but I picked up a few notes on the basketball front heading into tomorrow’s games against Arkansas-Little Rock

Alzee Williams will be back tomorrow after missing a game with a knee injury. UNT has very few scoring options right now and could really use the junior. I don’t know how effective he will be coming off an injury like that, but having him out there certainly won’t hurt.

I also talked to Jordan Williams for a story that will be in tomorrow’s paper. He is trying to be more aggressive offensively at a time that his team needs him.

Jacob Holmen will have an MRI on Tuesday. The senior has been suffering the lingering effects of his third concussion in a little over a year. I just have a bad gut feeling about Holmen’s status for the rest of the year. He could be back, but I think it will be a while.

On the women’s front, Mike Petersen made a really good point when talking about the Sun Belt race. UNT is 6-4, UALR is 5-6. That doesn’t look like that big a spread, but it is two games in the loss column and UNT won the first meeting. UNT can pretty much bury the Trojans tomorrow by taking a three-game lead in the loss column and securing the tiebreaker.

UNT will be a little shorthanded, though. Braylah Blakely is out with a strained quad she suffered in UNT’s loss to Middle Tennessee on Thursday.
