Sunday recruiting notes Part III (Omar Tebo)

I posted earlier today that one of UNT’s recruits heard that Omar Tebo, the big defensive tackle from Liberty, Texas, had committed to play for UNT.

Tebo said this afternoon that nothing is finalized yet.

UNT has a spot for a defensive tackle and had three candidates — Charles Walker, Tanzel Smart and Tebo.

Walker committed to Oklahoma. Some sites are reporting that Smart (who I don’t have a number for) has committed to Tulane. That appears to be the case, but Scout.com has that commitment listed as a soft verbal.

That likely means that Smart will take his official visit to UNT next weekend.

Tebo was in town this weekend and really likes UNT.

“I like the coaches and the players,” Tebo said. “They are all cool. I also like that the coaches take academics seriously and make sure that you are in class. The team GPA was almost a 3.0 last semester. I know that if I go to North Texas, the coaches would be on top of me about my education. I know I would get my degree.”

The question now is whether or not Tebo will get an offer.
