Thoughts on UNT-FAU

I spent some time/space in the paper today talking about the good things that happen for UNT when Tony Mitchell shoots the ball.

Tony Benford spent some time talking to Mitchell on the same subject. So did Roger Franklin, and I would imagine some of UNT’s assistants.

Translation: “Shoot the ^%*# ball.”

Mitchell did, scored 24 and UNT won, taking out a pretty good Florida Atlantic team on the road in overtime.

Frankln scored the key basket, a putback that sent the game to overtime when Mitchell missed a shot just before the buzzer with FAU’s players all paying a whole lot of attention to what the big guy was doing.

Did I mention that good things happen when Mitchell shoots.

Franklin talked about how UNT is learning to win and how this game could be the start of a season-ending run.

UNT is really short on players, but if a few come back, there is no reason to think UNT can’t get something going.

The UNT women lost to a pretty good FAU team. Loryn Goodwin scored 25 in her second straight game with a career-high. She could end up being a really special player for UNT.

I wrote about the Blakely vs. Blakely matchup for the paper.

Yep. Braylah’s older sister plays for FAU. UNT recruited her for a while. The sisters’ parents were on hand.
