Update 18:37 — UNT has started the second half on a 7-2 run and is up 46-31. This game might be pretty much over with. Tony Mitchell has 19 points and is having one of his better games. UNT just introduced a guy leaving for Afghanistan tomorrow. Pretty cool.

Halftime — UNT has a 39-29 edge at halftime here at the Super Pit. Troy pulled to within three late in the first half before UNT went on a 7-0 run. Tony Mitchell is having a great game in front of the usual group of NBA scouts. He has 16 points and six rebounds. Westley Hinton has 13 for Troy. UNT looks a whole lot better than it has recently in the halfcourt and is shooting 46.4 percent from the floor.

Update 3:49 — UNT is up 28-23 with Troy headed to the line. A couple of makes would make this a one-possession game for the first time since the early going. Tony Mitchell is having a good game with 12 points and five rebounds. UNT has outscored Troy 7-0 from the line.

Update 6:45 — UNT is up 23-18 as we roll along in the first half. Tony Mitchell has seven points for UNT. which is still shooting a solid 47 percent from the floor. Troy is just 2-for-10 from 3-point range, which is where it does most of its damage.

Update 8:38 — UNT is still hanging on to a 21-16 lead midway through the first half. Jordan Williams and Niko Stojiljkovic have six points each for UNT, which is shooting a solid 47 percent from the floor. Williams and Stojiljkovic are a combined 5-for-5.

Update 14:01 — Troy just took a timeout with UNT up 10-0. UNT is playing really well defensively. Troy is 0-for-7 from the floor.

Update 15:48 — UNT is up 6-0 at the first media timeout of the first half. UNT is 2-for-6 from the floor and looks a little better offensively than it has in a while. UNT has forced four turnovers, which has made a big difference.

Update tip — In an interesting twist, PJ Hardwick starts at the point for UNT. Justin Patton is also in the starting lineup.

I am getting to this a little late after banging out a quick blog on Keith Coleman being out for a violation of team rules, but I will be blogging as we go along tonight here at the Super Pit where UNT will take on Troy.

On paper it’s not a very super matchup.

UNT and Troy are both 0-3 and are the last two teams that have yet to win a game in Sun Belt Conference play.

The idea after UNT lost both games in a two-game trip to Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky was that the schedule would start to turn in the Mean Green’s favor.

Well, this should be that time.

UNT will be really shorthanded without Coleman and Chris Jones, who is out with a broken foot he suffered in the Mean Green’s loss to WKU.

Check back, I will update the blog all night.
