UNT-UALR thoughts and a recruiting tidbit

Well, that homestand didn’t turn out very well.

The UNT men and women both lost tonight to Arkansas-Little Rock. The UNT men fell 62-57, while the women lost 52-48.

The two teams combined to go 0-4 this week at home after being swept by Middle Tennessee on Thursday.

The men’s game was a little bit of a head-scratcher. UNT had three guys combine to score all but two of its points. Jordan Williams had 22, Roger Franklin 20 and Tony Mitchell 13. Niko Stojiljkovic finished with two points.

It’s hard to win that way. UNT just doesn’t have much of a choice with so many guys out.

The interesting comment after the game was Jordan Williams talking about his efforts to be more assertive. (Check the paper tomorrow). He’s gone off for at least 20 in each of UNT’s last two games.

Roger Franklin said that the rest of UNT’s players need to follow Williams’ lead and give everything they have.

You just wonder at this point if UNT has enough.

The UNT women were right in it until the end, but BreAnna Dawkins layup was off in the closing seconds and Taylor Gault rushed the ball to the other end and laid it in at the buzzer.

UNT is in a serious offensive funk of late. UNT managed just 47 points in a loss to Middle Tennessee on Thursday.

UNT still has a shot at winning the division, especially if it can sweep Arkansas State in the two games the teams have coming up.

And in a side note, a few people have asked if defensive tackle prospect Tanzel Smart came on his visit to UNT. I was told that he didn’t. He’s solid to Tulane.
