Jared Moffatt, the head coach at Van, texted me back just a few moments ago.
UNT offered Sydrick Moore a spot in its 2013 class this morning. He has signed with the Mean Green.
Moore was also offered by UTEP. SMU had offered early in the process, but pulled its offer later on when the coaching staff got a look at his official transcript.
Moore has yet to qualify academically, but Moffatt expects that he will reach the NCAA benchmark by the end of the school year.
Moore will double-sign with Blinn College just in case he doesn’t make it.
Moore is a bit undersized at 6-1, 260, but Moffatt believes he can put on enough good weight in college to play at 275 without losing his quickness that makes him an effective defensive lineman.
UNT was in on Moore for months and turned to him after missing out on some of the other defensive tackles it had on its board, including Charles Walker of South Garland, who is expected to sign with Oklahoma today, and Tanzel Smart, who is expected to sign with Tulane.
