Monday afternoon basketball notes

It’s looking more and more like UNT is going to get Chris Jones back in time for the Sun Belt Conference tournament. Jones was shooting at practice today. Tony Benford mentioned that he might be back before the end of the regular season.

UNT is holding on to the hope that Jones’ return could be a game-changer.

Jones can break down a defense on the bounce and is the offensive threat that P.J. Hardwick isn’t. Hardwick is getting a lot better and will be great down the line, but teams sag off him in halfcourt situations.

Jordan Williams talked about how comfortable he is at this point shooting the ball. He knocked down everything in UNT’s win over Troy and will get plenty of additional opportunities. Teams are going to do whatever they can to take Tony Mitchell away.

The UNT women are looking to regroup after falling at Troy. UNT turned the ball over far too often and never got into a flow offensively. Head coach Mike Petersen said that UNT just never looked confident and too many players were not aggressive on the offensive end. UNT also didn’t have its defense lead to offense.

Both teams have a chance to get on track before the conference tournament starts, but time is quickly running out.
