Monday afternoon notes and tidbits

We are a few days removed from UNT being swept at South Alabama in men’s and women’s basketball, but there is always a lot going on at this time of the year. With that in mind …

The biggest news of the weekend was the UNT tennis team knocking off No. 30 Arizona. Agustina Valenzuela won the final match to give UNT a 4-3 win.

The Mean Green was ranked No. 57 heading into the match and should move up after the win. UNT beat Minnesota, which was ranked No. 41 at the time, earlier in the year. UNT really is developing into a consistent power in women’s tennis under Sujay Lama.

UNT hosted a junior day over the weekend. It’s still early in the process for a program like UNT, but an event like that does give a lot of players a chance to see the school and talk with the Mean Green’s coaches. We will see in the next few days if any news comes out of it.

At the very least, it will give UNT’s coaches a better idea of who they want to make a priority over the next few months.

One of UNT’s local targets, Argyle linebacker Sam Sizelove visited Texas Tech over the weekend and talked to Will McKay of RedRaidersSports.com about how it went. Sizelove said his top three is Texas Tech, Baylor and TCU.

“They were always like been a top school for me, but now I’ve narrowed it down to a top three, and I think they’re definitely in there right now,” Sizelove told McKay. “They just really impressed me, and I think I will probably have the most fun if I go out there.”

And finally, the Sun Belt indoor track meet is going on. UNT is in second place in the men’s team standings and third in the women’s team standings after the first day.
