UNT coach resigns

UNT volleyball head coach Ken Murczek has resigned to take over in the same capacity at Wake Forest.

UNT announced the move this morning.

UNT hired women’s basketball coach Mike Petersen away from the same school a few months ago.

Murczek won a pair of Sun Belt West Division titles at UNT and led the Mean Green to the Sun Belt tournament final this year.

He’s the third coach UNT has had hired away by a major conference program in the last two years. LSU hired Johnny Jones, who took UNT to two NCAA tournaments, after last season. Karen Aston made a one-year pit stop at UNT on the way to Texas.

Murczek did a pretty remarkable job building UNT’s program in three years and brought in a lot of talented high school players and transfers.

The job should be a pretty attractive one, especially with the nice home gym UNT has to work with in the Mean Green Volleyball Center.
