Tony Mitchell will make it official here in a few minutes. He is declaring for the draft.
The 6-foot-8 forward will forego his final two years at UNT.
Mitchell averaged 13.7 points for his career and shattered UNT’s blocks record for a season with 87 and a career with 157.
Mitchell nearly left UNT after last season when he was named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, but decided to return so that he would have a chance to mature and improve as a player.
Mitchell shined at times and struggled at others during a disappointing season overall for UNT, which finished with a 12-20 record. UNT was picked to win the Sun Belt West Division, but finished fourth out of five teams and was ousted by Louisiana-Lafayette in the first round of the Sun Belt tournament.
