Tuesday night notes

I stopped by UNT’s tennis NCAA bid party today and talked to a Sujay Lama and a couple of players. I will have a story to lead off my notebook in tomorrow’s paper.

I also shot a video with Lama. I will post it late tonight or early tomorrow when it finishes uploading.

UNT drew TCU in the first round, which will be an interesting matchup. UNT lost to the Frogs earlier this year, but it was a close 4-2 match. If UNT can swing a couple of matches the other way, it could easily get to the second round to face Texas A&M, which is hosting this year.

We are still cooking along in the spring recruiting season. UNT offered another top Metroplex player in Cedar Hill cornerback Marcus Green. Mississippi, Missouri and Arkansas State have also offered.

Ben Baby, one of our high school writers, talked to Argyle linebacker Sam Sizelove, a former UNT target who committed to Kansas State in the last few days.

Turns out his father was a two-year letterman at linebacker for UNT.

The kid had a ton of offers from major conference schools. He’s not the kind of guy UNT usually has a shot at, but it still has to hurt a bit considering his father played for the Mean Green.

We have not talked about softball on the blog a lot lately, but UNT is pretty much on fire right now. UNT has swept its last two conference series and beat UTA tonight when Taylor Schoblocher hit a walk-off grand slam.

Ashley Kirk threw a pair of no-hitters against Louisiana-Monroe last weekend and was named the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week.

In a case of bad timing that couldn’t have been foreseen or prevented, UNT’s game against UTA and its tennis festivities were at the same time.
