North Texas women’s basketball coach Mike Petersen made reference to a big-time recruit the Mean Green was about to sign during the school’s coaches caravan a few days ago.
With it being the end of the signing period, I did a little asking around and can safely report that: The Eagle has landed. Signed on the line. Jumped on board.
It went down last week.
The only catch?
UNT is going to wait a day or two to identify said catch recruit.
UNT has done a pretty remarkable job of improving its talent level under Petersen.
Candice Adams, a top 100 national recruit who had committed to Texas, backed out and signed with UNT in the early period.
Looking back to last year, UNT picked up Alexis Hyder, who was a third-team All-Sun Belt pick as a freshman and would likely have been the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year if it wasn’t for her teammate Loryn Goodwin.
Granted, Goodwin decided to transfer after one season, but she was still a really good pickup. UNT also had a couple of key transfers sitting out in Taylor Hooker (Tulsa) and Briesha Wynn (TCU).
I don’t expect this to take too awfully long to go down.
We should hear in the next couple of days who the mystery player is.
