Brandon Garner talks UNT

Brandon Garner heard from UNT’s coaches on a regular basis up until he committed to Purdue during his junior season.

Once he backed out of that pledge, Mean Green’s staff picked up its efforts again and saw them pay off Wednesday afternoon when the Mansfield Timberview linebacker committed to play for the Mean Green.

Garner decommitted from Purdue three weeks ago.

“I just felt like Purdue wasn’t the right place for me,” Garner said. “I didn’t necessarily feel wanted there. I felt like I was wanted at North Texas. The coaching staff treated me well and loved me showed me that they wanted me.”

Garner was a first-team All-District 7-5A selection as a junior and was offered a scholarship by UTEP in addition to Purdue.

UNT safeties coach and recruiting coordinator Noah Joseph recruited Garner.

Garner wants to study broadcasting, which also was a factor in his decision to commit to UNT.

Garner is rated as a three-star prospect by both ESPNand 247and is among the highest rated players to commit to UNT in the past two seasons.

I will have more on Garner in Friday’s paper.
