Tony Mitchell hits the game-winner and a point on UNT’s assistant coach search

Tony Mitchell continued to shine during NBA summer league action today.

The former UNT standout grabbed a Korie Lucious miss in the lane in the closing seconds and slammed it home to give the Pistons a 78-77 win over the Miami Heat.

Here’s a link to the highlight.

Mitchell finished with seven points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Mitchell seems to have really helped himself during the summer league season.

And in a side note, we have mentioned that former Texas Tech assistant Bubba Jennings is a candidate to replace Bart Lundy, who left UNT’s staff in the off-season to become the head coach at Queens.

There have been some questions raised about whether or not Jennings would want to get back into coaching. He was finalist for the Midland College job back in the spring of 2011.

Considering the friendship UNT head coach Tony Benford has with Jennings, adding the former Tech standout to the Mean Green’s staff seems to make a lot of sense.
