UNT is set to announce a television series on Fox Sports Southwest that will follow the Mean Green throughout the season.
Crews have began filming interviews with UNT players and people around the program this week.
I know since I was one of those people.
There was a similar program produced on SMU during the 2012 season.
We should know the full details tomorrow when the announcement is made.
UNT is putting on a pretty strong PR push for its first season in Conference USA, and this is a big part of the plan.
It’s a smart move for UNT. People around the program see this season as a vital one for the future of the program. There has always been a feeling at the school that UNT football is under-publicized when compared to other programs across the state.
The television show could help get the word out, but it also makes it even more important that UNT has a good season. Say Dan McCarney and his staff do lead UNT to a turnaround year. This will be another way people can follow along in addition to keeping up with what is going on in the paper and in what television coverage UNT receives. That could really vault UNT forward.
Having a television show document another tough season for the Mean Green could be, well, tough.
I have a good idea of what one of the first segments will cover.
I expect it to be a well-produced series and something UNT fans will enjoy.
And as an added bonus, people will get to see me squirm on TV.
I am an ink-stained newspaper guy to the core and have never been a TV guy.
