I’m headed out of town for most of the weekend, but while I’m away watching UNT try to get to 2-0 in football, there will be some key games being played back in Denton in soccer and volleyball.
The UNT soccer team hosts Sam Houston on Friday night and then turns around and faces rival TCU on Sunday in a game that will be on Fox Sports Southwest.
Those games will be the Mean Green’s first since losing stud goalie Jackie Kerestine for the year with a knee injury. Kerestine was injured in the Mean Green’s game against Virginia Tech on Sunday. She’s a key part of UNT’s team. Maybe THE key part. She was the MVP of the conference tournament last year.
UNT could know a little more about how it will fare without her after this weekend when Haley Riley will get the call in goal.
The UNT volleyball team will also be in action in the North Texas Invitational beginning in the morning. UNT has won two straight after a tough couple of matches to start the season, including a showdown with UCLA, a national power.
UNT’s first game will be against Prairie View A&M at noon.
Check tomorrow’s paper. I’ll have a full schedule of the weekend slate.
