We talked a little yesterday about the respect UNT gained with its performance in a 45-21 loss to Georgia.
UNT rose to No. 9 in The Dallas Morning News’ weekly rankings of the top teams in Texas college football.
The attention UNT received came from more than just local outlets.
Chip Towers of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution talked positively about UNT in his game story, which also includes video of Georgia head coach Mark Richt’s press conference.
Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald, who we traded Q&As with last week, talked about how well UNT played in his story as well.
If one wants to know just how big a change that is, the Los Angeles Times also had a UNT reference in one of its stories this weekend, this one analyzing ill-prepared teams that were blown out over the weekend. They used UNT’s 79-10 loss to Oklahoma back in 2007 as an example of what not to do, one that included a quote from former Oklahoma head coach Barry Switzer:
“They had no game plan for losing … When you can’t win a game, you need to run the clock. Get the game over with, get on the bus and go home.”
UNT has come a long way since then.
Even against a national power like Georgia, UNT had a game plan that put the Mean Green in position to win for most of the game.
