We are just about finished up with Conference USA basketball media days here in Irving. UNT coaches Tony Benford and Mike Petersen were in the second session. I will add to this blog when I get back to the office, but here are a couple of quick tidbits:
– The general feeling from Tony Benford is that UNT is ahead of where it was last year. UNT has more depth and a hunger that comes from experiencing a season in which nothing seemed to go right. UNT will also start out in a much better place than it ended last season in terms of injuries. UNT had a ton of key players miss time last year, including Brandan Walton, Chris Jones, et cetera.
– Mike Petersen also feels good about where the UNT women are at heading into his second season. UNT has six players available this year who were not a part of last year’s team.
– I mentioned a while back that Ash’Lynne Evans had an MRI on her knee. It turns out that she is fine.
– And finally, I picked up some information on UNT’s new floor at the Super Pit. It will be in by the beginning of the season and will have the same eagle logo at halfcourt that is in the same spot in the practice facility. The lane will be green with the C-USA logo. The new floor will complete the upgrades to the Super Pit that also include the new scoreboard.
