Friday afternoon notes (monster game for soccer team, et cetera)

UNT will face Tulsa tonight in a monster game when it comes to the Conference USA soccer season.

UNT (9-5-1, 3-2-1) and Tulsa (9-4-1, 3-1-1) are essentially tied for second place in the C-USA standings. Colorado College has run away from everyone at this point, but the Mean Green can set itself up pretty well with a win tonight.

We talked a little bit about it earlier in the week in our all-sports notebook.

It would be a pretty big accomplishment if UNT can pull it off and finish second in C-USA in its first season in the league.

And on the football front …

UNT is headed to Louisiana (not a happy place for the Mean Green in recent years) for a game against Tech. UNT does not have a player on the roster who has won a game in Louisiana.

I’m headed that way in a few minutes, but before I do I haven’t had a chance to mention on the blog until now that Brelan Chancellor was named a first-team mid-season All-American as a kick returner by Phil Steele

Chancellor is just a great all-around player, one who has taken advantage of the improvements UNT has made on special teams under Tommy Perry.
