We have been talking a lot over the last few days about the importance of UNT’s game against Rice on Thursday, and justifiably so. The Mean Green can become bowl-eligible for the first time in seemingly forever with a win over the Owls.
It would be a milestone in program history and, in theory, a huge momentum boost.
But there is a lot else going on around the UNT athletic department on Friday. Consider:
– UNT is also hosting UTEP that afternoon in women’s soccer. Win that game and UNT is the No. 2 seed in the Conference USA tournament. That would be a huge accomplishment in UNT’s first season in the league. UNT just keeps on winning in women’s soccer under John Hedlund.
– UNT will also have its new floor installed in the Super Pit on Thursday. UNT has invested heavily in its basketball program the last couple of years to try to maintain the success it experienced over several years before a tough season a year ago. UNT has a new basketball practice facility and a new scoreboard at the Super Pit.
With that being said, the big event of the day is UNT’s game against Rice. Win that game and UNT’s current three-game winning streak takes on even more meaning with a key win over an in-state rival.
