I haven’t had a chance to mention it on the blog until now, but there was a familiar name that came up in the NBA Developmental League Draft this week.
Former UNT guard Michael Sturns was taken in the fifth round by the Austin Toros.
If you look it up, Sturns is listed as having played for Holy Family (yes, there is such a school).
Sturns started out at UNT before transferring and finishing out his career.
Sturns wanted to play the point at UNT and was stuck behind some good players during the height of the Johnny Jones era. Ben Bell was the starting point guard in Sturns’ last year.
Austin was where Tristan Thompson played after finishing off his decorated career with the Mean Green.
