UNT signing day primer

At UNT, where football rules the roost, mention signing day and people immediately think about early February.

Well, the other signing period arrives tomorrow. It’s the early period, which is pretty important in the basketball world.

Here is a look at where things stand for UNT:

I chatted with Carter coach Lyndon Love this afternoon to find out what Jeremy Combs’ plans are. Combs is a 6-7 forward UNT made a big priority in this cycle.

Love said that Combs will sign tomorrow morning in what will be a huge win for Tony Benford and his staff. Combs is a top 15 player in Texas.

The UNT women are also expected to sign a few players, including two from the Dallas area in Bria Frierson of Frisco Liberty and Jaileen Thomas of Richardson Berkner. Megan Womack, a forward out of Oklahoma, has also committed to UNT, although I am not sure if she will sign tomorrow.

In an interesting side note, Richardson Berkner guard Keenan Evans, a player UNT chased pretty hard, is not signing with Texas Tech tomorrow.

Here’s what Evans told the guys from Raider Power, the story I lined above:

“I think its best if I wait to sign in the spring, I want to make another visit up there, but I’m really excited to come to Tech.”

Tech, UNT and Western Kentucky were all in the hunt for Evans.

You never know, UNT still might have a chance.

There are also a couple of players signing with UNT in Olympic sports.

Chelsea Abii of Arlington Oakridge and Kate Dicken of Coppell are signing with UNT in volleyball, while Devin Edwards of Frisco Liberty is signing with UNT in golf.

I’m sure there are a few other names that will pop up tomorrow.

It’s a big day for UNT, not as big as February, but still one worth noting.

Check back for more tomorrow.
