BYU hammers UNT … thoughts

We didn’t travel to Utah for UNT’s game against BYU tonight, but I thought I would jump back on the blog to post a few thoughts.

And try to talk people off the ledge.

UNT was supposed to get hammered tonight and that is exactly what happened in a 97-67 Cougars win.

BYU is good, really good, 7-2 with its only losses coming against teams ranked in the Top 25 good.

UNT traveled to altitude in a snowstorm, which is pretty much out of its normal element. And that is exactly what UNT was tonight — out of its element.

UNT was pounded on the glass 60-38 and and shot just 35.4 percent from the floor.

The Mean Green still managed to hang around for a half and trailed just 42-35 at the break. BYU blew UNT’s doors off in the second half, outscoring the Mean Green 55-32.

Maurice Aniefiok led UNT with 11 points. Vertrail Vaughns, Chris Jones and T.J. Taylor each had nine.

It wasn’t pretty, but UNT is still 5-4 on the season with some winnable games coming up before C-USA play.

It was a tough night for UNT, but all is not lost.
