UNT will host about six junior college players on official visits this weekend.
We have talked about a few players who are coming in this weekend, including Northeastern Oklahoma A&M linebacker Akii Smith and former UAB quarterback Josh Greer.
I can say for certain that one player who will not be in on a visit — despite reports to the contrary — is Itawamba JC linebacker Carderious Dean.
At least one recruiting website has Dean listed as coming in on an official visit this weekend.
Itawamba Jon Williams confirmed this afternoon that Dean has cancelled his visit to UNT and will visit Arkansas State instead.
“North Texas is still recruiting Carderious, but he got an offer from Arkansas State and decided to go there this weekend,” Williams said. “UNT had not offered. Arkansas State has. Arkansas State’s head coach [Bryan Harsin] offered before he left for Boise and the defensive coordinator [John Thompson] said they are going to stick with it. UNT was possibly going to offer after Carderious met with their coach.”
Thompson has taken over at ASU on an interim basis.
UNT is filling up fast in terms of players in this class.
I’ve talked to Smith and it sounds like UNT has a very good chance of landing him this weekend. Smith might be an even higher priority now. Dean might be Plan B, and Plan B is headed to Jonesboro this weekend.
