I have polished off my stories on the Heart of Dallas Bowl for both papers. While I was finishing up, UNT was finishing off Texas A&M.
A team that was trounced by SFA at home and barely beat Wayland Baptist took out the Aggies, 61-41.
Needless to say, it’s a huge win for UNT, which is now 8-5.
Maurice Aniefiok scored 16 points, Alzee Williams added 14 and A&M coach Billy Kennedy issued an apology to A&M fans after the game.
“We did a great job executing our scouting report, keeping them out of the paint, getting to their shooters and rebounding the ball,” Benford said. “We’re getting better at sharing the ball.”
Here’s the million question — Is this the start of something big for UNT or a blip on the radar?
UNT has been up-and-down all season, but will now have a chance to enter Conference USA play on a roll if it can beat UC Riverside on Saturday.
